It is routine to perform blood tests in the immediate post-operative period to assess renal function and to check for post-operative anaemia due to blood loss.
In circumstances where the haemoglobin is unacceptably low (<8g/dL), or if you have symptoms of anaemia, including;
- Light-headedness.

- Confusion.
- Tachycardia (fast pulse).
- Hypotension (low blood pressure).
It may be necessary to administer a blood transfusion.
